Find out about the benefits that are available to you, as an English language teacher.

Cambridge ESOL Exam Preparation: The Use of English Teacher's Task
Bob Obee

This talk will explore issues and techniques in preparing candidates for the grammar and vocabulary challenges of Paper 3 of the Cambridge Advanced Exam. It will consider these challenges in relation to the different dimensions of the exam preparation teacher's task: integrating meaningful exam practice with language learning, raising exam task awareness and training students in exam technique.

To CLIL or not to CLIL

Mary Spratt

Increasingly schools across Europe are suggesting or adopting CLIL as a way of teaching English. Many teachers must wonder what the advantages and disadvantages are of taking up CLIL and leaving EFL aside. This talk will seek to compare CLIL and EFL, discussing their differing aims, syllabuses, methodologies, target language, contexts of adoption and demands on teachers. It will also report on the research available that focuses on the strengths and weaknesses of the two approaches. The talk aims to provide teachers with an impartial overview of the two approaches that will help them consider their own position in relation to both.

Spelling Myths and Enchantments

Johanna Stirling

Get ready to challenge some myths and illusions of English spelling and the way we teach it. Open your mind to new skills and arts that can transform weak spellers of all ages into better spellers. Watch boring mechanical practice go up in puffs of smoke as enchanting new techniques and activities appear before our eyes. Motivating magic that all teachers can perform!
